Safety Operations
Southern Sons is committed to ensuring a safe working environment and reinforces a "zero injury - zero harm" policy in OH&S.
We pride ourselves on an impeccable safety record and continually strive to maintain our high standard through education, consultation, and implementation of safe work practices in all areas of transport, inclusive of loading, unloading, driving, and vehicle maintenance.
At Southern Sons we enforce the following practices with our deployment of Occupational Health & Safety Policies and Procedures, in alignment with Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) & Work Health & Safety (WHS) Regulations.
Our codes of practice:

Occupational Health & Safety
Southern Sons Transport recognises its responsibilities for providing a safe and healthy workplace, and is committed to ensure that the health and safety of all employees in the workplace are protected with compliance to Work Health and Safety (WHS) Act and Regulations, Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) & Australian Road Rules.

Mass Management
All Southern Sons vehicles operate under the National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme,
allowing 46 tonne and 68.5 tonne permits, respectively. Our drivers are trained and competent to
assure that requirements of the scheme, administered by the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR), are complied with at all
times.
The Mass Management policy is overseen and audited by an approved external auditor, as is the
current requirement of the scheme.

Fatigue Management
Each Southern Sons Transport driver is required to attain Fatigue Management accreditation allowing a 14 Hour working day.
Under our risk management policy, Southern Sons choose to operate drivers on a 12 Hour driving schedule on a regular basis, as we feel this is the optimal limit. Personnel will be supplied and loads are scheduled to accommodate all shifts, as such - i.e Double shifting vehicle where feed delivery will exceed 12 hours.
Our preference is to operate a vehicle changeover system which allows drivers to return to their place of residence, where possible.

Driver Training
Southern Sons Transport not only ensures that all drivers are suitably licensed by the relevant Road and Traffic authorities, but also that they demonstrate a responsibility and aptitude required to uphold our high standards.
All employees of Southern Sons Transport receive a one on one, competency based, comprehensive training program and must complete Occupational Health and Safety Method Statements and Standard Work Procedure accreditation prior to commencing on site.
Presently our team, including all contractors and drivers, have fully completed these requirements. As well as the requirements for appropriate licences and accreditation, experience and safe work practices, we require all drivers and other employees to provide a professional, positive and friendly attitude, in line with company values.

Farm Etiquette and Curfews
An integral part of services provided by Southern Sons Transport is our acknowledgement that the farms we deliver to are also part of the local community. The privacy and respect for these properties and their neighbours is of utmost importance to ensure a harmonious relationship between our customers and their communities.

GPS Data
All Southern Sons Transport vehicles are fitted with GPS Tracking systems providing GPS data and live access to truck location and reporting.
